Supervisor, Regional Communications

LOCATIONS:

The Walt Disney Company in the UK & Ireland is dedicated to creating compelling and immersive entertainment experiences that delight and engage children and families – whether it is through our Disney-branded TV channels, in our magical Disney Stores, on stage with the production of The Lion King, or of course in cinemas and retail outlets across the region.
We are seeking a Regional Communications Supervisor to join our Communications team based in Hammersmith on a permanent basis.
The Communications Supervisor will support the Regional Communications team with a specific focus on Disney Media Distribution, DisneyLife and Healthy Living, working closely with the local PR teams to support their implementation of media relations and digital/social campaigns.
Key responsibilities include:
PR material development

  • Assist with the creation of PR plans, budget proposals, toolkits, media and social materials for allocated franchises and business divisions
  • Draft regional and UK media materials that drive coverage across EMEA, including toolkits, press-kits, press releases, Q&A documents, etc. supporting:
    • Businesses: DisneyLife, Disney Media Distribution and Healthy Living
  • Day to day communication with the US and EMEA local market PR teams on multiple PR campaigns related to the businesses above, encouraging creative and innovative approaches
  • Support Regional PR events and press junkets -working closely with the local markets and events management team to ensure their successful delivery
  • Review internal systems to look for ways in which they can be improved and enhanced, develop templates where needed
  • Review and approve third party releases and feedback comments


Media and Influencer Relations

  • Identify opportunities for coverage and help to ensure that maximum benefit is achieved from them
  • Devise story angles, proactively seek out opportunities and deliver consistent stand-out coverage across key trade media
  • Maintain excellent contacts with the UK media and wider influencers (e.g. vloggers, bloggers and celebrity agents) and constantly build new relationships
  • Monitor traditional and social media and escalate stories that represent risks or opportunities
  • Draft media materials


Management

  • Help manage and coordinate day to day activities of interns, encourage their ongoing professional development and help to prioritise tasks and activities
  • Supervise agency resources where appropriate, ensuring they are briefed in a timely manner and campaigns deliver against business goals
  • Drive evaluation process on key campaigns and ensure learnings are shared with the team


Relationship Management

  • Day to day communication with the US and EMEA local market PR teams on multiple PR campaigns, encouraging creative and innovative approaches
  • Build relationships with relevant stakeholders and teams to ensure there is regular dialogue and the communications team is briefed on a timely manner
  • Build and manage successful relationships with media and agency partners


Internal Communications

  • Represent the Communications team appropriately in relevant inter-department meetings
  • Ensure stakeholders are kept up to date with key campaigns
  • Champion all activity from an internal communications perspective to maximise potential across the business


Suitable candidates will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Graduate level education preferred with upwards of five years relevant industry and professional experience
  • Able to plan PR campaigns and deliver supporting regional materials in a timely fashion; understand the impact the campaign will have on the business
  • Very strong communication and writing skills
  • Good media relations skills, and strong digital/social media experience
  • Solid understanding of the media across a range of markets
  • Strong knowledge of the entertainment industry and popular culture
  • An ability to generate ideas and PR opportunities
  • Capable of working at senior levels within the Disney organisation
  • Able to manage talent and partners (such as external PR agencies or licensees) in a professional and appropriate manner
  • Collaborative, team player, ability to form good relationships with colleagues and third party partners
  • Extremely organised with excellent co-ordination and prioritisation skills
  • Highly discreet and aware of the sensitivities of some information and situations
  • Good understanding of the Disney brand and its reception and profile in different markets
