Director, Business Insights & Futures Planning


The incumbent is to assist the Vice President in providing insights from primary and secondary research to support strategy development, with an aim of helping The Walt Disney Company (Company) and its various lines of business (LOBs) achieve their business objectives and better position themselves among target consumers in Greater China (and in North Asia on a needs basis).

  • Assist the Vice President in designing and implementing a holistic research program (which includes consumer trend exploration, digital behavior and brand affinity tracking, etc) to meet the research needs of the Company and each of its LOBs, with the following specific responsibilities:
    • Understand the research needs and requirements of the Company, based on 5YP, AOP and regular discussions with each LOB, and provide a point of view on what types of research should be conducted (not just how to conduct the research)
    • Develop project plans and work closely with agencies to meet project output and timing requirements
    • Ensure all research outputs (reports and presentations) meet the project objectives and are communicated clearly and effectively in an engaging / storytelling way to gain buy-in from key stakeholders at the local, regional, and global levels
  • Analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative findings from both primary and secondary research and provide actionable insights and a point of view (as opposed to just data and information) to inform business decisions
  • Act as the “eyes and ears” of the Company and proactively identify market and consumer trends that have potential impact on our business
  • Present research findings to senior executives and, as a business adviser, explain their implications for our business
  • Lead a team of 3 managers / analysts and manage each stage of research independently / with minimal supervision
  • Identify research agencies that are truly insight-driven, help them gain a good understanding of our business operations and our expectations for research, and develop them as long-term business partners

Basic QualificationsA strategic consumer research and insight consultant, with:

  • More than 10 years of solid customized research experience gained from research agencies and/or client companies
  • Ability to design and execute both quantitative and qualitative research projects independently from start to finish
  • Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills to identify and communicate the business implications to senior management
  • Comprehensive experience in market research project management, including questionnaire/discussion guide design, sampling, fieldwork management, analysis and presentation of results
  • Strategic thinking and understanding of how to turn research data into succinct and strategic intelligence
  • Experience in conducting/facilitating strategy development workshops for senior executives
  • Strong leadership / people management skills
  • Good internal stakeholder management skills
  • Good understanding of the media / entertainment industry (useful but not a must)
  • Interest in learning how to analyze and interpret media ratings data
  • Degree in General Business Management / Marketing / Psychology / Communications / Statistics
  • Excellent written and spoken English, and Chinese language capability.
  • Outstanding communicative expertise at all levels
  • Proven cross cultural understanding and awareness
