This Spring we are looking for an intern to assist in our Websocket messaging platform, which is responsible for delivering messages in sub-second timeframes to millions of connected users simultaneously. It can be seen in action at ESPN.com (the scoreboard banner, among other things) as well as breaking news stories at ABCNews.com. This platform is written in Java and is focused on performance and scalability. The focus of the internship will be on improving the feature space of this system while maintaining or increasing overall performance and scalability. As a member of the team you will be responsible for:

  • Participating in Sprint Planning and tracking work items
  • Writing code in Java (and possibly other languages)
  • Working as a member of a larger team
  • Self Directing (Some tasks may only have high level descriptions and we expect you to figure out what needs doing)
  • Asking questions when you cannot find the answers you need

Basic QualificationsWhat we are looking for…

  • Basics of Java
  • Completed at least one Data Structures or Algorithms course
  • Desire to work on a backend system
  • Teamwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed/Taking a Networking Course
  • Knowledge of Websockets
  • Knowledge of Redis (Database technology)

Required Education

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program
  • Computer Science/Engineering
  • Informatics
  • Any Engineering Program if required Java experience is present and desire is strong

Preferred Education

  • CSE Java
  • CSE Data Structures
  • CSE Algorithms
  • CSE Networking
  • CSE Databases
  • Comfortable with Linux

  • The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2018 through August/Sept 2018
  • Candidate must be available to work full time hours (approximately 30-40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
  • Able to provide own housing and transportation in the Seattle area
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
