Associate Manager, Encoding Administration

BAMTECH Media is a streaming technology joint venture between The Walt Disney Company, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, and the National Hockey League. BAMTECH currently has an opening for an Associate Manager, Encoding Administration position.

Our environment is incredibly dynamic, fast-paced, and sophisticated. This position is a key member of the Media Delivery team responsible for the encoding and delivery of media content for new digital media products that will be a major industry disruptor. The ideal candidate has a background in enterprise-level video encoding, particularly HLS, and is comfortable in a broadcast environment. ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities include:

• Management of video and audio web encoding appliances into HLS, Flash and other delivery formats
• Key member of maintenance management/support relationship with web encoding and transcoding vendors
• Key member in developing the feature set of in-house live encoding solution
• Primary troubleshooting of encoding platforms
• Tier 3 level operational support of video and audio web encoding platforms
• Training and dissemination of encoding protocols/procedures to primary operational staff

Basic Qualifications

• Enterprise video encoding expertise
• Knowledge of video codecs and compression, specifically H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC
• Understanding of HTTP Live Streaming (HLS)
• Experience working in mid-size to large data centers
• Familiarization with video delivery over the leading content distribution networks (e.g., Akamai, Level3, etc.)
• Understanding of media formats on mobile devices, tablets and OTT devices
• Experience troubleshooting with hosts, including applications and services, on Linux operating systems (CentOS)
• Understanding of RTMP, RTSP, Shoutcast, http delivery architecture
• Understanding of Windows services, registry, and application structure
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong host/configuration management skills
• Be comfortable acting as a technical resource to other departments to address and resolve problems
• Ability to coordinate with staff in BAMTECH’s offices around the globe

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of broadcast delivery protocols including: MPEG-TS
• Knowledge of the ANSI/SCTE 35 specification
• Comfortable troubleshooting with Transport Stream and Elementary Stream analyzers
• Knowledge of Linux BASH scripting
• Knowledge of batch scripting in Windows
• Experience working with Cisco AnyRes Live, Elemental Live or similar live encoding appliance
• Experience with ffmpeg, mp4box and x264
