Core Systems Engineer

BAMTech is a streaming technology joint venture between The Walt Disney Company, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, and the National Hockey League. BAMTech handles streaming for numerous partners, some of which include, HBO, MLB, NHL, Eurosport, ESPN, and World Wrestling Entertainment.

As a result, the BAMTech Media team helped pioneer live event streaming over the Internet in 2002 for Major League Baseball. The passion to improve that experience led to many impressive firsts: the first 720p or “HD Ready” stream, the consecutive record for concurrent streams and the first stream in 8K ultra HD. Today, BAMTech has a proven, scalable platform that powers direct-to-consumer applications for leading entertainment brands; and is now a major player in sports and eSports rights acquisition.
We are looking for engineering talent to help expand our capabilities and help ensure our platforms grow and scale through innovating our next digital breakthroughs.

We’re currently seeking candidates in mid-senior level capacities in our New York City office. If you feel that your skills align with some or all of the following, we would love the opportunity to speak with you! Basic QualificationsInfrastructure

• Linux OS Fundamentals (RHEL / CentOS)
• Enterprise Storage (NFS, Block, Object)
• Networking (TCP/IP / Multicast / UDP)
• Virtualization using VMWare, KVM
• Cloud Technologies – AWS Preferred
• Strong performance troubleshooting skills across large enterprise application deployments that may span on-prem infrastructure or cloud deployments

Automation

• Experience with Bash / Python or Perl (Python preferred)
• Configuration management using Puppet, Chef, Ansible
• Experience with Docker a plus
• Build automation using Jenkins a plus

Development / Architecture

• Basic experience with C++ / Java highly preferred
• Experience with distributed, fault tolerant, load balanced application architectures
• Source Control systems (git preferred)
• Continuous integration and deployment methodologies

Web Technologies

• In depth knowledge of the HTTP protocol
• High level understanding of HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) or Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH)
• Experience using Nginx or Apache for Web Serving or Load Balancing, and Caching using Varnish, Memcached, or Couchbase
• Familiarization with video delivery over the leading content distribution networks (e.g., Akamai, Level3, Limelight, etc.)
