Security Investigations Intern, Corporate - Summer 2018

The Global Security Investigations team is responsible for a variety of investigative activities within The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) and affiliated companies, to include:

  • Conducting investigations on matters including: intellectual property loss and theft, personal information loss and theft, employee misconduct, physical property theft, workplace safety issues, and cybercrimes
  • Leading threat assessments and developing threat mitigation plans
  • Partnering with other business units, within and outside of Global Security, to develop protocols, response, and investigative plans for workplace safety and security incidents
  • Collaborating with business units to develop proactive measures to capture and maintain incident reports and prevent security incidents
  • Teaming with various units with TWDC, affiliated companies, other corporate security investigations teams, and law enforcement representatives at the local, federal, and international levels, to facilitate investigations and collaborate to promote and practice preventative initiatives.

ResponsibilitiesA Day in the Life…
While working under direct supervision the Security Investigations Intern will:

  • Collaborate with investigators and assist with complex investigations into unlawful activity and into violations of company policies and procedures in an efficient, thorough and professional manner
  • Learn to conduct interviews; locate, review and analyze data; conduct investigative research in physical security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control); preserve evidence; and produce cohesive and thorough written reports
  • Assist in conducting threat assessments and help consider options for threat management strategies
  • Learn to compile detailed professional reports and maintain well-organized and accurate Incident/Case files
  • Support the professional investigative interview process for employees and others, occasionally involving sensitive subjects
  • Work with other investigators on initiatives for security and investigative enhancements and process improvements
  • In conjunction with senior members of the team, interface, as necessary, with executives on security and investigative matters

Basic QualificationsWhat we are looking for…

  • An inquisitive mind with experience in conducting research and preparing detailed and factually-based documents
  • Interest in gaining investigative experience in conducting interviews; locating, reviewing and analyzing data; conducting investigative research in physical security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control); preserving evidence; and producing cohesive and thorough written reports
  • Proficiency in internet and open source /social media research
  • Basic understanding of computer systems and networks
  • Experience in fundamental business skills (working with a budget, etc.) and proficiency in standard office software programs, such as word processing, presentation software and spreadsheets
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to be discrete, particularly when handling confidential and/or sensitive information
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining positive customer / client relations
  • Ability to maintain strict discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest or academic experience in conducting behavioral threat assessments
  • Cyber security awareness and interest or experience in conducting computer related investigations
  • Experience with producing basic statistics and producing case analysis data
  • Project Management experience

Required Education

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program
  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Business, Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Pre-Law, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Studies or a closely related field

Preferred Education

  • 3.0 GPA or above preferred

Additional Information

  • The approximate dates of this internship are May 2018 through August 2018
  • Candidate must be available to work full time hours (approximately 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
  • Able to provide own housing and transportation in the Burbank/Glendale area
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
