Sr. Lead Android Developer

The Movies Anywhere group at The Walt Disney Studios is looking for a full time Sr. Lead Mobile Developer to join our Android development team. This senior level role will be focused on designing, building and delivering video centric Android applications across a wide array of platforms from mobile devices to the big screen.
Responsibilities

• Lead the design of our Android ecosystem, ensuring best practices are followed
• Follow UI design guidelines to develop user interfaces that are intuitive, stable, and responsive
• Develop and design working, readable, testable, and maintainable source code
• Ensure that the Android team stays on top of the latest technologies, and contribute to the strategic direction of
  the Android client platform
• Interface with product stakeholders and recommend solutions to achieve product goals with a focus on user
  experience and performance
• Become a Movies Anywhere platform expert and actively look for ways to improve performance, squash bugs,
  and increase the usability of the product
• Stay current on mobile platform/device capabilities and traditional design & engineering disciplines
• Maintain and continually expand upon expert knowledge of languages, tools, devices, applications, and
  environments
• Lead the effort of adding solid automated testing to the Android codebase and CI pipeline
• Support the Movies Anywhere product throughout its entire development lifecycle, from feature definition to release, including off-hours support

Basic Qualifications

• Strong background in software engineering, specifically with building responsive UI with the Android SDK that will target multiple devices
• Experience working in Google’s Android user interface guidelines and best practices
• Experience in large catalog video streaming applications required
• Understanding of DRM systems and the basics of content protection
• Working knowledge of ExoPlayer and video performance monitoring SDKs
• Experience with Android TV a plus
• Experience with using Android Studio
• High Level understanding of the Android system architecture
• Experience with RxJava, Dagger, Android Architecture Components, Realm, and GraphQL is a plus
• Strong understanding of software design architecture principles, and design patterns – especially as it pertains to Android development
• Expertise in testing, ranging from unit tests to automated UI testing
• Strong background in designing and building applications with an emphasis on performance, scalability, high-reliability and maintainability
• Experience working in a fast paced, continuous integration environment
• Comfort with light-weight and/or Agile development methodologies
• Android development experience with large-scale apps (100k+ DAU) published on the App Store
• Excellent communication skills, willingness to mentor teammates
• Familiarity with UX/Design Technologies and Applications (Photoshop, Responsive Design) is a plus
• Exposure to other mobile technologies like iOS is a plus
• Superior creative and innovative problem-solving skills with passion for new technologies.
