Principal Software Engineer

LOCATIONS:

The Walt Disney Studios is comprised of large team of creative professionals who produce and acquire live-action and animated motion pictures, direct-to-video content, musical recordings and live stage plays that tell memorable, life changing stories. As part of the Studio’s Technology team you’ll be joining a group of seasoned, dedicated technologists solving a range of interesting problems in innovative ways in an exciting and dynamic industry.

ResponsibilitiesWhat You Will Be Creating:
You will be working in a small team of multi-disciplined engineers on creating the next generation of the Studio’s platform for digital distribution and servicing of post-theatrical and broadcast content.

  • Analyze requirements and incrementally drive/lead technical solutions, balancing short-term delivery and long-term functional and technical goals.
  • Collaborate with other engineers(Software, QA, DevOps), product and business stakeholders, and domain experts
  • Evangelize technologies, solutions, and best practices
  • Contribute new ideas to a larger community of high-caliber professionals
  • Pair program, all day, every day and believe in working at a sustainable pace
  • Conduct research and analysis, as needed, to report on the software engineering trends throughout the industry - specifically focused on the entertainment industry.
  • Interface with various outside entities for work on integration points
  • Listen, mentor and build consensus
  • Effectively communicate trade-offs and technical decisions

Basic QualificationsWhat’s Your Story?
At a minimum we’re looking for the following in a candidate:

  • BS in Computer Science or related field with 15+ years of experience or MS/PhD with 10+ years of experience
  • Very passionate about coding (If you have a Github profile, that’s awesome!)
  • Very passionate about following ideas and trends in software development:
    • Agility
    • Evolutionary Architecture
    • Functional Languages
    • Domain Driven Design
    • Microservices
    • Cloud computing
    • Continuous delivery
    • TDD
    • Automation and monitoring
  • Can analyze trends for their applicability per situation
  • Know the fundamentals of CS and programming languages

  • Excellent Written and verbal communication skills

And we are always open to trying other technologies. Required Education
