Assignment Desk Internship- NY, ABC News – Summer 2018

ResponsibilitiesAn internship on the ABC News Assignment Desk is designed to introduce and engage undergraduate students with a passion for broadcast journalism to the daily workings of a 24-hour global newsroom.
A day in the life…
•Providing production support to the ABC News Assignment Desk (answering phones, booking travel)
•Pitching stories, research, making editorial calls, logging video feeds and transcribing tapes
•Assisting producers and correspondents on assignments in the field
•Writing stories or livestream for ABC News Digital platforms
Basic Qualifications

What you bring to the role…
•An avid newsreader with a genuine interest in current affairs
•Detail oriented, works well under pressure and excellent multi-tasking skills
•Demonstrated interest (academic or internship) in journalism or production
•Experience working in a newsroom for an affiliate, newspaper, or established online publication preferred
•Strong verbal and written communications skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
•Ability to work flexible schedules with availability on weekends and evenings in case of breaking news
As well as...
•All candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization
•All candidates must be at least 18 years old
•All candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months - OR - be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program in order to qualify for this internship
•All candidates must be available from May/June to August/September for a 12 week program
•All candidates must be willing to work full-time 40 hours/week
•All candidates must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
•All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session

Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year, graduate student or recent graduates
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Prior experience working in a newsroom (print or broadcast)
• Familiar with Avid or Final Cut Editing
• Experience writing for either online or print publications
