Senior Front-End Developer - JavaScript/React

Are you passionate about sports? Are you excited to develop online products for the latest devices using cutting-edge technology? Would you like to develop live-updating animated play graphics and data visualizations for the worldwide leader in sports? The ESPN frontend development team is looking for an experienced frontend developer with a strong background in building JavaScript applications and interactions. Our team supports the development of all ESPN domestic and international online products. In this position you will develop advanced online applications, sites and pages through responsive, cross-browser HTML, CSS and JavaScript leveraging modern libraries including React. Responsibilities

  • Develop interactive prototypes utilized for testing product concepts and interactions
  • Collaborate with design and product teams to create complex layouts across breakpoints
  • Participate in developing the frontend code base and standards for ESPN domestic, international, fantasy, and partner sites
  • Proactively communicate with critical partners as needed
  • Mentor other members of the frontend development team

Basic QualificationsQualified candidates must have a minimum of 4+ years of experience working within the field of frontend development, and possess the following characteristics:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop advanced and complex handwritten frontend code following web standards (HTML5/CSS3, SASS, JavaScript)
  • Experience using Javascript libraries, templating engines, and compilers (React, jQuery, Node.js, Handlebars, Backbone, Angular, Grunt, etc.) to create complex online applications
  • Solid understanding of responsive web development and device limitations
  • Demonstrated ability to convert Photoshop/Illustrator designs to HTML/CSS
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Mac and PC experience and understanding of browser testing across platforms
  • Experience working in a collaborative development environment (GitHub experience preferred)
  • Self-motivated, natural problem-solver, with good communication style and a demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record as lead developer or developer on high traffic websites
  • Demonstrated experience with creation of svg graphics and animations using Javascript SVG libraries (i.e. snap.svg)
  • Design experience and understanding of user interaction
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mechanics, contents and operating philosophy of the ESPN.com web site, including an understanding of the optimal experience for a sports fan

  • Proves their facility with frontend development, responsive development, javascript libraries, templating and interactions and advanced interface functionality
