Senior Manager - Reliability Engineering

This senior level manager is a key leader in our Systems Engineering organization. This leader will focus on improving our systems availability, increasing our tooling & automation, and maturing our operations bringing a bias toward proactive data driven solutions. Reporting to this leader will be our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and sustainment teams. As a Senior Manager, this role will be responsible for scoping, planning and leading development and support activities that are executed by both internal and vendor resources. The role will partner closely with other engineering teams to ensure the technical solutions, technical product strategy and architecture deliverables are providing direction for the developers, support teams and engineers working on assigned projects.
Open to both Orlando, FL & Seattle, WA Locations.
The ideal candidate will be a “hands on” top level Manager who will provide senior level technical and management direction on enterprise level applications and projects across the teams. Exemplary leadership and communication abilities (both verbal and written) are a must; this role will partner closely with business and technology leadership in delivering systems, which meet and exceed business objectives. Passion for the advancing the business on a technical basis and delivering measurably improved technical outcomes is critical.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute must with a demonstrated ability to work well with both engineering and business colleagues; including the ability to thoughtfully present to senior executives. Required: Experience owning and resolving issues that impact operations, systems design, product success, or address future concepts, products, or technologies; Disciplined approach to maintaining and application engineering best practices; Ability to synthesize robust and cost-effective technical solutions against customer requirements providing buy versus build decision making; Consistent, compassionate and inspiring manager to the team; Positive can-do partnership attitude while working with teams, cross-functional teams and cross-functional business units; Must be detail orientated, self-organized, and capable of simultaneously tracking multiple issues of varying complexity. Responsibilities

  • Ensure multiple concurrent ongoing projects and team objectives are resourced effectively to accomplish goals
  • Develop and deliver on a roadmap improving systems reliability and availability in a scalable sustainable manner with a bias toward proactive management
  • Meet with stakeholders, partners, and customers on a reoccurring basis to review team priorities and execution, major incidents and problems, and pertinent business and project updates.
  • Manage departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, developing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
  • Identify recurring problems and build the tools and processes to prevent problems from recurring.
  • Build the tools and processes to help quickly triage issues and identify the component(s) that need to be fixed.
  • Properly manage project timeline and financials including budget, cost, invoices, budget supplements, and change orders.
  • Support on-call response to critical operational issues; be able to work beyond normal hours and support implementation transition activities and hyper-care shifts as needed
  • Effectively communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict with and among teams, peers and leaders.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in systems engineering/IT operations leadership
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and hands-on experience with high-scale web architectures, patterns, and technologies, specifically Java, Event-Driven Architecture, and ReST.
  • Experience with modern monitoring capabilities including APM (i.e. New Relic, AppDynamic) as well as other instrumentation technologies
  • Experience creating web architecture designs that incorporate resiliency and performance
  • Experience managing an engineering team utilizing agile methodologies
  • Ability to effectively work across all levels of the organization and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace and drive organizational change

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years programming in one or more of: Python, Perl, Ruby, Java, Node or C
  • 2+ years UNIX systems knowledge and/or systems administration background
  • Experience with automation tools like Rundeck, Chef, Puppet etc.
  • Trouble-shooting skills that span systems, network, and code
  • Experience with web-based Java/J2EE architectures
  • Experience utilizing Machine Learning capabilities within IT operations
  • Experience in a large scale environment
  • Experience operating with a multi-origin hybrid (cloud and on-prem) environment
  • Experience managing production container environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, proven ability to develop and deliver presentations geared for Executive Management
  • Proven experience managing software development lifecycle platforms and tools

Preferred Education

  • BS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline
