Project Architect

GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Architectural Design of facilities for attractions and shows in the themepark.
Job Description

  • Develop construction documents as a Job Captain working under a Project Architect on a land or act as Project Architect on small to medium sized projects.
  • This position will typically support schematic, design development, contract documents phases of the project life cycle. Field responsibilities such as construction observation and submittal review may also be included.
  • Shares responsibilities for quality, timeliness and effectiveness of project team efforts.


Capabilities Sought

  • The ideal candidate will at a minimum:
    • Have a Bachelor Degree in Architecture,
    • Registered Architect of the HKIA or RIBA or other recognized Architect Institute.
    • Be able to work in a range of styles and themes,
    • Possess strong design, layout, detailing, and sketching skills,
    • Possess strong verbal and writing skills,
    • Understand facility construction and systems,
    • Possess ability to lead coordination efforts relative to architectural interfaces with other facility, show, and ride systems,
    • Be self-motivated and capable of work with minimal supervision,
    • Be flexible in assignments,
    • Be familiar with specification content and its relationship to construction drawings,
    • Be capable of efficient and productive work in Autocad
    • Be capable of estimating and scheduling the work of others (3 to 6 drafting staff) as well as leading them as a job captain,
    • Be capable of providing backup to Project Architects when the latter is out of the office or otherwise occupied.

Basic QualificationsExperience

  • Minimum of 7 to 12 years of practical and related experience
  • While not mandatory, work experience at a Disney Resort or Park is useful.


Portfolio Requirements

  • A copy of the candidate’s latest resume should be included with examples of Job Captain experience cited.
  • Candidates should be able to infer a visible connection between their experience and the interests of Imagineering. Accordingly, candidates should have a general familiarity with our Resorts and Parks, as well as an understanding of both Imagineering’s purpose and history.
  • There is no specific format for portfolios. Hardcopy, as opposed to electronic is preferred, and small thumbnail images are not recommended. Trace paper, blueprints, sketch notebooks are all a welcome inclusion to a traditional portfolio of finished work and model photos.
  • Specific portfolio content should include, but not be limited to:
    • Prolific hand sketching of environments, places, and/or landmarks
    • Digital design development which demonstrates Rivet/Autocad skills.
    • Evidence of related outside experience


REQUIRED WDI COMPETENCIES:

  • Autocad Skills.
  • Rivet Skills
  • The next level of career progression in this role would be Architect to Senior Architect to Principal Architect

Required Education

  • Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Master Degree in Architecture.
  • Registered Architect of the HKIA or RIBA or other recognized Architect Institute.
