Project Manager (PH)

Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.
The Imagineer will be responsible for tactical project management of small to large projects from blue sky to close out. Regularly interfaces with creative, technical, engineering and construction disciplines in the delivery of show/ride design and systems throughout the life of the project.   • Develops and executes strategy and design documentation (individual at this level is the strategic partner with the Construction and Facilities project executives)
  • Resource loading for multiple projects
  • Authors and pushes through Capital Authorization requests
  • Responsible for writing and defining scope, estimates, schedules, budget development, contract administration, procurement (generates scope through award)
  • Develops program book and coordinates pro-forma
  • Prepare and present project status reports at monthly updates to executive management
  • Engage in blue sky projects
  • Executes strategic direction of project team
  • Develops resource loading for project
  • Develops scope for capital authorization
  • Executes strategy for design documentation, procurement and construction of project
  • Helps to establish strategies for design, facility construction, and Show & Ride groups
  • Manages larger staff size due to increased project scope
  • Works with Divisional leader in Influencing selection of internal team members and contractors/vendors
  • Participates in vendor bidding process
  • Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance; makes assignments by matching task to talent
  • Provides daily creative/planning direction to internal/ external project team(s); adapts to changing project demands, collaborates with diverse project teams and meets milestone schedule expectations/deadlines
  • Leads development of budgets, scheduling, and resource planning for projects
  • Negotiates contracts
  • Resolves daily conflicts of the team
  • Position leads such roles as: Project Estimator, Scheduler, Finance rep, Design Manager, Lead Ride Engineer, Show P&D Manager, Construction Manager
  • Position is partner to the Creative Producer or Director of the project
  • Accountable for balanced decision making and the ability to know when to seek guidance from other partners and/or escalate complex issues to executive management
  • Change Management -- Responsible for defining problem and rationalizing cost, stakeholders, and risk
  • Identifies options, and formalizes recommendation which is raised to Senior Manager for final resolution
  • Develops relationships with key executive leaders
  • Manages relationships within the scope of own project environment
  • Begins to work with key managers and divisional leaders

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Proven experience managing the project development process and documentation
  • Experience in developing the program book and managing commitments established by pro-forma
  • Supervisory experience managing and leading a project team, being the team leader
  • Experience with and proven understanding of scheduling, estimating, budgeting and quality control
  • Experience with hiring outside vendors, professional bid packages
  • Experience in the contract administration process (contacts, professional fees)
  • Ability to manage through conflict, complexity and to problem-solve issues to resolution
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, E-Mail)
  • Expanded computer proficiency in various software helpful

Required Education

  • College degree in a WDI core discipline such as Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, or advanced business degree

Preferred Education

  • Continuing education and studies at the post graduate level (i.e. MBA or Master’s degree in applicable field) desired
