The Aquatic Research Intern will make an impact by collecting, compiling and analyzing data in an aquarium setting. Research topics include fish health and husbandry practices, including water chemistry, as well as behavior and cognition of a variety of aquatic animals, including marine mammals ResponsibilitiesThrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while caring for animals involved in on-going studies and communicate the intricacies and importance of research to Disney’s guests.

  • Perform daily water chemistry analysis on six 140-gallon salt-water, aquarium systems and maintain daily records for each system
  • Provide daily care of research fish as needed, including feeding and cleaning of their habitats and assisting in the plumbing and maintenance of the fish research systems
  • Be involved with daily dolphin cognition sessions, including set up and tear down of computer, video and other equipment, creation of experimental stimuli and data collection and recording
  • Interact with park guests sharing information with them about our on-going research.

Basic Qualifications
What You Bring to the Role:

  • Demonstrate strong interest in pursuing a research career in aquatic animal-related topics
  • Minimum of three months mentored independent research experience with aquatic animals under the direction of a senior scientist
  • Minimum of three months experience caring for aquatic animals, preferably at a zoo or aquarium
  • SCUBA certification is required at the time of application. Applicants must currently have a SCUBA certification card when applying for the internship.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds

Preferred QualificationsThe Intern’s preferred qualifications include:

  • Public speaking experience
  • Scientific writing experience

Required Education Required Education:

  • College Junior, Senior or recent college graduate from undergrad program studying Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Pre-Veterinary, Psychology or other related science major
  • Minimum grade point average 3.2

Preferred Education

  • Psychology minor

Internship Eligibility:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
• Must provide full work availability
• Must provide own transportation to/from work
• Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 2018 - January 2019. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
Housing: A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
