Park Decorator - Part Time
LOCATIONS:
Part-time Park Decorators fabricate decorations, props and sets for Disneyland®, Disney's California Adventure and the Disneyland Resort Hotels. Each location may have a specific theme or time period, which the Decorator will need to identify and understand. Individuals assigned to work in a Park Decorator position must have a full understanding of hardware safety, correct fabrication techniques and an awareness of decorating installation. They must be aware of current vendors and product available for decorations.

The starting pay rate for this position is $23.24 per hour.
Responsibilities
The Park Decorator role includes working in one of the following positions:
Window Display Designer
Ensure that the designs comply with the guidelines set by the Disneyland® Resort Enhancement Team and that visual presentation and basic Disney Show standards are followed
- Understand the theory of color, composition, balance and texture and possess knowledge of period styles, fashions, and set decorations
- Examine, repair or replace current props or set décor as needed
- Coordinate crafts such as Painters, Metal Workers, and Carpenters, to assist with projects as needed
- Make effective use of budget and manpower resources
- Negotiate project design, merchandise utilization and support as required
- Read and interpret blue prints
- Review current designs and work progress with management
- Inspect current displays in Disneyland®, the Downtown Disney District, and Disney California Adventure Park
- Clean and dust to maintain "show quality"
- Utilize hand tools, small power tools, and understand various hardware types
- Produce thumbnail sketches as well as finished-design drawings for each project assigned, as required
Floral Designer
Design and fabricate artificial-floral arrangements
- Daily floral activities include: dusting and routine maintenance of all areas, inspection of floral installations, and repairs to show-set florals prior to Parks’ opening
- Assist with floral and artificial foliage installations for special events, On Stage activities, and occasional film shoots
- Utilize period florals to comply with current Resort Enhancement and Disneyland® Show Quality guidelines
- Ensure that all materials are authentic and appropriate for whatever the area show theme dictates
Seasonal Holiday Designer
Fabricate holiday decorations for the Disneyland® Resort
- Work in a production team-style fabrication department
- Review current Disneyland® Resort holiday-décor assets for quality of ornaments, ribbon lights, and greenery
- Develop new designs of holiday décor as needed
- Assess materials and replace materials within the allocated budget
Basic Qualifications
Schedule Availability - Availability to work Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., including holidays and weekends if required. (Shifts and work days may change during periods of installation or striking of decorations and assets.)
General requirements of all Park Decorator roles include the abilities and experience outlined under "Responsibilities" above, as well as the following technical abilities, skills and experience:
- Use of basic tools, glues and adhesives
- Computer skills – Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator preferred
- Strong freehand and graphic-illustration skills to produce thumbnail sketches as well as finished-presentation-style drawings
- Understanding of proper use of basic floral instruments (Park Decorators and Floral Designers only)
- Complete understanding of the following:
- Overhead rigging and hardware systems
- Color theory, composition, balance and texture
- Period styles and fashions
- Three-dimensional media
- Current window-display-design skills
- Proficiency in time management and efficient material utilization
Specific requirements of the Park Decorator roles include:
- Three-to-five years of experience in visual communications or three-dimensional media and ability to provide a portfolio with current display design
- Three-to-five years of experience in floral design and must provide a portfolio with color photos of current work
Preferred Qualifications
Seasonal Holiday Designer
Manlift and forklift certification is preferred
Preferred Education
Window Display Designer
- A Bachelor of Arts degree, or equivalent experience
Floral Designer
- A degree, trade certification, or equivalent experience
Additional Information
Individuals assigned to a Park Decorator position are required to attend an annual Hearing Conservation Training class and a Respiratory Protection Training class. They are also required to submit to an annual medical evaluation, fit test, and audiometric exam.
