Assistive Technology Internship: Fall 2018

Your Role...
This position provides technical support for the implementation and sustainment of Disney developed Assistive Technology services for Guests with Disabilities at the Walt Disney World Resort. The Assistive Technology services are Assistive Listening, Handheld Captioning, Video Captioning, Reflective Captioning, and Audio Description Partner and interact with various departments to provide an exceptional experience for Guests with disabilities using the Assistive Technology services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning the technical theory of operation of the Assistive Technology services offered at the Walt Disney World Resort
  • Supporting a fleet of PDA-style handheld devices that provide the Assistive Technology services
  • Investigating and troubleshooting in-park infrastructure
  • Working with Design and Engineering and Engineering Services with new installations and repairs
  • Auditing Assistive Technology Services for content accuracy
  • Maintaining accurate guest and cast information materials
  • Assisting with special projects including audits, photo documentation, and the creation of maintenance materials
  • Supporting in-park tours and demonstrations

Basic QualificationsWhat you Bring to the Role:

  • Ability to learn quickly and implement new knowledge
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Comfortable functioning in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

Preferred QualificationsWhat sets you apart:

  • Backstage experience, especially throughout attractions, at the Walt Disney World Resort
  • Experience working in theater, music or show production environment
  • AV technical services experiences
  • Previous experience supporting services or technology for persons with disabilities
  • Experience with CAD software, Issue Tracker and Wikis

Required Education

  • Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related major
  • Junior, Senior or Graduate student status by arrival date
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate degree at an accredited 4 year college or university
  • Cumulative overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (Note: No rounding) as shown on a transcript (please upload a transcript when applying)

Additional InformationInternship Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must not have already completed one consecutive year of employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney Cast Members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World Cast Members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland Cast Members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)


Location of position: This position has opportunities in Lake Buena Vista, FL and Anaheim, CA
Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 2018 to January 2019. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship. This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position.
